Forgotten Atlas Privacy Policy
Forgotten Atlas: Match Puzzle ("The Forgotten Atlas") is a single-player puzzle game made by Cogsprite, an independent game studio ("we"). It is made for players of all ages, including children. This policy explains what happens to your information when you play it.
In short
- We do not collect, store on a server, sell or share any personal information. There are no accounts of ours and no analytics.
- When the game first starts, it asks for the year you were born. The answer only chooses which kind of ads you may see; the game keeps an age group (under 13, 13 to 17, or 18 and over), not the year.
- Players under 18, and anyone who chooses "I'd rather not say", only get non-personalized, family-rated ads. Adults are asked through Google's consent form before any personalized ads are shown.
- Saving your progress with Google Play Games is optional, offered from 13 and up, and off until you turn it on.
- Nothing in the game is sold for money.
What stays on your device
Your progress (pages discovered, stars, coins, boosters and settings, including your language and age group) is saved in the game's private storage on your device. Nobody else can read it, including us.
The age question
Before the first page, the game asks "What year were you born?", with the option "I'd rather not say". It uses the answer only to place you in an age group, saves that group on your device, and forgets the year. The game itself is the same for everyone. The age group decides how ads are requested (below) and whether "Save with Google" is offered.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The Android app uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK to show:
- an optional short video you can choose to watch for a bonus (for example, five more moves after a loss), and
- now and then, a short ad between pages (never during play, never in your first session).
How ads are requested depends on the age group:
- Under 13, or no answer: every request tells Google that the user is a child (child-directed treatment under COPPA), that the user is under the age of consent (GDPR), and that only ads rated G may be shown. Google then serves contextual ads only: no personalized or interest-based ads and no remarketing. The advertising ID is not used.
- 13 to 17: requests are marked as under the age of consent and limited to ads rated PG. Ads are non-personalized and the advertising ID is not used for personalization.
- 18 and over: the game shows Google's consent form (Google's User Messaging Platform) where the law requires it, for example in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. If you agree, Google may show personalized ads using your device's advertising ID. If you don't, ads are non-personalized. You can change your choice at any time in Settings > About & credits > Ad privacy choices, and you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
To deliver and measure ads, and to prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK processes limited technical information such as the device's IP address, device type and operating system, the app version, and ad interactions (for example, that an ad was shown). Google processes this information as described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and Google's privacy policy. Google AdMob is certified for apps in the Google Play Families program.
The web version used for testing shows no ads.
Save with Google (optional, 13 and over)
If you are 13 or older and turn on "Save with Google" in Settings, the game signs in to Google Play Games and keeps a copy of your progress in your Google account (Google Play Games saved games), so it can follow you to a new phone. The copy holds the same game progress as the save on your device and nothing else. Google Play Games may also record achievements you earn. This is handled by Google under your Google account and Google's privacy policy; we don't receive your Google account details. If your account already has a different save, the game asks which one to keep. You can turn "Save with Google" off at any time; to delete the copy, use the Google Play Games app or your Google account settings.
Purchases
The game has no purchases at the moment: every look, piece set and frame is earned by playing. If we add a purchase in the future, it will be handled entirely by Google Play, we will never see your payment details, and this policy will be updated before that version is released.
Daily reminder (optional)
The daily reminder is off unless you turn it on in Settings. When it is on, the game asks Android to show one notification the next evening. Android schedules it on your device; nothing is sent to us or to anyone else. On Android 13 and later, Android first asks whether the game may show notifications. You can turn the reminder off in Settings or block the game's notifications in your phone's settings at any time.
Sharing (optional)
If you tap Share (your Daily result, or a picture of a map you have restored), the game opens your phone's own share menu, and you choose the app and the person. The text or picture contains only the game's progress (the map, the region and page counts), never your name or any other personal information. We don't see what you share or with whom.
Device backup
If Android backup is turned on for your Google account, Android may include the game's save in your device backup so your progress can be restored on a new phone. Google handles this backup under your Google account settings and Google's privacy policy. You can turn backup off in your device settings.
Deleting your data
We don't keep your data on any server of ours, so there is nothing for us to hold on to. You can delete everything yourself:
- Your progress and settings on the phone: uninstall the game, or open your phone's Settings → Apps → Forgotten Atlas → Storage → Clear storage.
- The copy saved with Google (Save with Google) and your achievements: turn off Save with Google in the game's Settings, then delete the game's data from the Google Play Games app (your profile → Settings → Delete Play Games account and data), or from your Google Account.
- Advertising data: reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads, or Google → Ads). Google's own controls are at myadcenter.google.com.
- Anything else, or if you need help: email us at support@cogsprite.com and we'll answer within 30 days.
Children
The game is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Players under 13, and anyone who doesn't answer the age question, get child-directed, non-personalized ads only, and "Save with Google" is not offered to them. Parents or guardians with questions can contact us at support@cogsprite.com.
Permissions
The Android app asks for internet and network-state access (to load ads and talk to Google Play) and vibration (for optional haptic feedback). The Google ads, billing and Play Games libraries also declare standard permissions that need no approval: Google Play billing, the advertising ID (used only as described above, for adults who agree), basic phone state (the device type, not your phone number or calls), and keeping the device awake briefly for background tasks. For the optional daily reminder, the app can show notifications (Android 13 and later ask you first) and restore a scheduled reminder after the phone restarts. The app does not access your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos.
Changes
If a future version changes any of this, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be described here. Version 0.30.0 added the age question, personalized ads for adults who agree, "Save with Google" and the Arabic language. On 9 October 2026 this policy moved to cogsprite.com, the contact address changed to support@cogsprite.com, and the purchases section now reflects that nothing in the game is for sale.
